Gangs of Perth Part 5 – The Night Riders

High Priest – David Haselhoff

Leader – Rick ‘The Machete’ Penlington.

Other members: Jimmy the jumper Gloriod, Neil Terminator Verdi & that bloke who turned up late. The Night Riders are actually more than 30 strong but the above three pictured are the only ones without outstanding warrants who’d let themselves be photographed.

Turf – Rob Hancock Memorial, after dark, Fridays.

As the last official census showed, there are only 12 people in the greater Perth metropolitan area who aren’t disc golfers now, and they belong to an obscure cult who don’t know it’s 2018. So it’s fair to say that things are getting a little crowded while we wait for those bludgers at Discgolfpark to build more courses.

‘Bugger this’ said Rick a couple of years ago. ‘We’re going dark.’ So he and his gang claimed the night and cruise the uncrowded fairways of Australia’s 2nd oldest course with nothing more than a LED-lit mid-range and a smile. They’ve also come up with a few ghost stories and trained an owl to follow them around just to scare other disc golfers away.

They’re a skittish mob, with supernatural night vision, so if you venture into Robbie H after the lights go down remember they are easily spooked. Approach them slowly, speak in a soft mumble, don’t make eye contact and bring something to drink. If you are wondering when to turn up, just listen for the gang loudly revving their e-bikes as they roll into Mulligan drive.
