Highlights for 2020 include:
-
- Minimised disruption to events originally listed on calendar, however our 2 biggest events being the Perth Disc Golf Open and Rob Hancock Memorial were both cancelled due to Covid-19. The Covid-19 shutdown period was from March 8th – June 26th
- A new tournament held at the start of 2020, The Rookie Rodeo, attracted 50 entrants for a pairs event with half of the players never having played a competitive tournament before.
- Use of UDisc League smartphone scoring app for use during our two league events. Online scoring removes the need for paper scorecards, allows for people to review live scores during the round and greatly reduces the league directors post event work compiling scores and posting results. Online scoring facilitated a return to active events once Covid-19 restrictions were lifted, enabling the club to meet Covid-19 safe compliance requirements.
- Financial member numbers remained constant at 42 despite the Covid-19 affected year and reduced number of events.
- Emergence of 3 enthusiastic and accomplished junior competitors who play practically every tournament and league event. Their ability enables them to be competitive at MPO division.
- PDGC again won the Kim Holmes Trophy club challenge events against Mundaring Disc Golf Course.
- Engagement with developers of residential land adjacent to Rob Hancock Memorial Golf Course. The developers included promotional material about disc golf in their marketing campaigns and invited PDGC to attend events aimed at attracting prospective land purchasers.
- PDGC was invited to re-configure the Curtin University disc golf course after new landscaping there affected several existing holes resulting in their removal. The University is very keen to maintain a functioning 18 holes course and are looking to finalise the re-configuration in 2021.
- Participant numbers at league events have been maintained at Rob Hancock course whilst Spearwood league average attendances have risen from 17 to 23 players compared with 2019.
